1.03) Raffles Statue 1955

The $1 Raffles Statue, issued in 1955. The stamp itself is one of two from Queen Elizabeth II series Definitives.
It features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with an elegant reproduction of the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles, which as all Singaporeans know, still stands today as a constant reminder of the vision of this founder of colonial Singapore. Both the statue and the stamp are fitting tributes to this great historical figure whom many consider to be the original “father” of Singapore.

1.02) United We Stand 1961

The 10 cents Singapore National Day, issued in 1961. A particularly significant stamp, it was issued at a time when the young nation of Singapore had begun to move rapidly towards a state of independence with a speed and determination that defied all expectations and traditions.
The four clasped hands depicted on the 1961 National Day stamp symbolize the committed unity of the multicultural people of Singapore. As most will agree, it is this commitment which has accounted for the remarkable success of Singapore and as such the historical value of this image is considerable.
