The 10 cents Singapore National Day, issued in 1961. A particularly significant stamp, it was issued at a time when the young nation of Singapore had begun to move rapidly towards a state of independence with a speed and determination that defied all expectations and traditions.
The four clasped hands depicted on the 1961 National Day stamp symbolize the committed unity of the multicultural people of Singapore. As most will agree, it is this commitment which has accounted for the remarkable success of Singapore and as such the historical value of this image is considerable.
